Himalayan Weavers was set up by Patricia and Ghayur Alam in 2005.
Ghayur Alam has a Ph.D from the University of Manchester, UK, in technology policy. His interests include mountain agriculture, rural development and the use of environmentally friendly technologies. firstname.lastname@example.org
Patricia Alam has been living in India since 1983. She taught Drama and English in the UK and the British School in New Delhi before settling in Masrana near Mussoorie in the Himalayas.
All our products are hand made. We hand dye yarn with natural dyes in village masrana which is 8 kms from Mussoorie on the way to Dhanaulti. we use a number of naturally occurring materials, most of which are plants. These include sappanwood, madder, tesu (flame of the forest), indigo, pomegranate, myrobalan (harada), henna and shellac.The weaving is done on traditional looms in villages near Dehradun.
All products are Craftmark certified as handmade. The certification is given by All India Artisans and Craftworkers Welfare Association.
